In the world of cheerleading, everyone knows the Worlds ... But for a few years now, another event has been taking up more and more space in the hearts of gyms and athletes: The SUMMIT . 🤩🇺🇸
It's not just another competition. It's an experience, a goal, a dream—especially for levels 1 to 4. And the good news is: Quebec is increasingly present in this world!
🏁 What exactly is The SUMMIT?
The SUMMIT is a high-level competition reserved for All-Star teams (no school or prep teams). It's organized by Varsity, a large private American company. To participate? You don't just have to register—you have to get a bid (an invitation) at certain competitions.
There are several versions of the SUMMIT:
D1 (large gyms)
D2 (small gyms, depending on the number of athletes) - not accessible in Canada
Youth Summit (U12)
No, it doesn't all happen on the same weekend! It's so popular that it spreads over several weekends!
🇨🇦 Canada in all this?
Before, to hope for a bid, you had to go to the United States. Now, good news: Canadian competitions also give bids, like Celebration, Championnat des Étoiles or Kicksmas. 🥳 This makes the dream of the SUMMIT much more accessible.
But be careful: Canada and the United States do not use the same scoring system. In Canada, it is a comparative system, while in the United States, they use a rubric. As a result, routines are sometimes adjusted during the season to perform at The SUMMIT.
🧠 Is it good for development?
Oh yes!
🙌 The SUMMIT pushes teams to achieve perfection in their level : whether it's level 1, 2, 3 or 4. It keeps athletes motivated, forces them to master each element (stunts, jumps, gymnastics, transitions, etc.), and it keeps them at their level long enough to really progress.
Some even say it better prepares you for the stress and environment of Worlds, because… surprise… The SUMMIT takes place in the same place : at Disney World! 🎢🎠
💰 But is it expensive?
Yes. Clearly. 💸
Like the World Championships, participating in the Summit often involves travel, accommodations, and entry fees. In short, it's a budget to plan for. But for many, it's worth it.
🏅 And what about our Quebec teams?
They shine! 🌟 More and more Quebec teams are returning with podium places, or even first places. The SUMMIT is becoming a local pride. And some gyms are now relying as much on this competition as on the Worlds to motivate their athletes.
🎯 The final word: aim for the top, no matter the level.
What the SUMMIT teaches us is that every level has value. We're no longer just aiming for "level 5 to make Worlds." We can now dream big from level 2, perform at the top of our level and have an incredible experience... at Disney! 🐭🏰
So parents, athletes: whether you are in level 1 or 4, the SUMMIT is a realistic, motivating and accessible goal. And who knows? Maybe next year, you will be the one on the podium. 🥇💙
