Episode of October 27, 2026

What if a team's greatest victory wasn't necessarily first place, but rather its ability to celebrate together?

In this episode of the Kick's Cheer Podcast, Janie, Nadia and Keaven welcome Thamika Midy, coach of the Marcellin-Champagnat Ambassadors, to discuss the importance of team spirit in cheerleading, authenticity and the role of coaches in the success of athletes.

An emotionally charged discussion that reminds us that medals are not the only way to measure success!

🥈 A second place that's worth its weight in gold

During the Canada Cup competition, the Marcellin-Champagnat Ambassadors experienced an unforgettable moment.

After a season without a podium finish, despite some solid performances, the team simply hoped to end on a high note.

During the awards ceremony, the athletes were so convinced they had finished fourth that they stood up to celebrate this position… before realizing that it wasn't even their team that had just been announced!

Then third place was announced. Still not them!

Finally, the Ambassadors won second place, triggering an explosion of joy that particularly touched Janie.

What made this moment special? A completely authentic celebration, filled with pride and emotion.

As Thamika reminds us:

"Just because you don't win doesn't mean you lose."

💙 Team spirit in cheerleading: it's built all season long

For Thamika, a united team is not created solely during competitions.

It all starts in training, in the small gestures of everyday life: encouraging teammates, recognizing progress, supporting each other in difficult times and learning to celebrate the successes of others.

In particular, she encourages her athletes to congratulate each other, rather than constantly correcting each other.

Her approach is simple: the coaches correct, the teammates encourage each other!

Thematic practices, team activities and moments of camaraderie are also part of his way of building a team that considers itself a true family.

🌟 The role of coaches: to lead by example

One of the major lessons from this episode concerns the influence of coaches on the attitude of athletes.

Thamika doesn't just ask her team to respect others: she shows them how to do it.

In competition, she encourages opposing teams, congratulates other coaches, and invites her athletes to do the same.

For her, cheerleading is a competition, but also a community.

And when a team learns to appreciate its own progress rather than focusing solely on its ranking, every competition becomes an opportunity to grow.

❤️ Much more than a sport, a school of life

Thamika, a coach for 12 years and an educator by profession, places great importance on the personal development of her athletes.

Self-confidence, respect, emotional management, perseverance and a sense of belonging: the lessons learned on the mat can accompany young people far beyond cheerleading.

She notably shares the example of a rather reserved athlete who completely transforms when she steps onto the competition mat.

A great demonstration of what sport can bring to young people's confidence!

🎧 Learn to celebrate every victory

This episode reminds us that a team that knows how to celebrate is not necessarily the one that wins the most medals.

It is the one that recognizes the work accomplished, that remains united in adversity and that takes pleasure in evolving together.

An inspiring discussion for coaches, athletes and parents who want to see cheerleading in a different light than through rankings.
