🏆 Cheer Awards Ceremony: Traditions, Debates, and Great Stories (S2.31)

Updated: Aug 25

Episode of April 21, 2025

The awards ceremony is always a highlight in cheerleading. Whether it's announcing a historic podium finish or awarding a medal to a newcomer, these moments are memorable for the athletes... and their parents!

🎤 Name the ranking: 3-2-1 or 1-2-3?

The question often comes up: is it better to save the announcement of first place for the very end, after all the positions have been revealed, even if the surprise effect is less great? Others believe that it is better to reveal first place immediately after third place, in order to maximize impact and surprise. However, this method has its detractors, who believe that it relegates second place to the shadows.

Should we then limit ourselves to announcing only the three podiums, without detailing all the places? The debate remains open... and probably endless.

🤝 Award ceremonies in the face of ties: a headache...

Last year, for the first time at the World Championships, several divisions finished tied. There were no tiebreakers: trophies and medals were shared between teams, creating touching moments of camaraderie… but also some logistical challenges and awkwardness.

🇲🇽 Elsewhere, it's different

Awards ceremonies can vary from venue to venue, event to event, and country to country. In Mexico, for example, it's the coaches who go on stage to collect the trophies, highlighting their work and creativity. The athletes remain in the room and celebrate together.

🥇 Medals: much more than a souvenir

At Kick's, everyone leaves with a medal, even the preps, novices, and demos. The idea? To recognize each participation and make an impact on young minds. A touching story inspired this choice: Janie's nephew perfectly remembered his medal from a race the previous year... to the point of making Janie change her mind about medals (she didn't want medals at her events)!

💬 And you, are you more of a suspense person until you reach first place or a highlight of the other podiums?

The awards ceremony is much more than a ranking: it is a moment of emotion, recognition and memories that remain etched in your memory.
