🎧 Pro Cheer League (S3.26)

Episode of March 10, 2026

Cheerleading may have just entered a new era. Since January, a professional cheerleading league has officially existed: the Pro Cheer League.

In this episode of the Kick's Cheer Podcast, we demystify this new concept that is generating a lot of buzz in the cheer world: athletes paid to perform, spectacular events and a league inspired by professional sports.

🏆 What is the Pro Cheer League?

The Pro Cheer League is a new league launched by Varsity where cheerleaders are paid to participate in events.

Athletes would earn approximately US$5,000 to US$15,000 per season , which includes:

  • travel

  • the hotel

  • the uniform

  • expenses related to matches

  • And other expenses

It's not a full-time career yet, but it's a first step towards professional cheerleading.

📍 The Teams in the League

The first season features four American teams :

  • Miami Metal

  • Dallas Drive

  • Atlanta Air

  • Golden Gate Grit

These teams include several well-known cheerleaders, including athletes from Team USA and stars from programs like Top Gun, Navarro, or Trinity Valley.

🎬 A very different format from competitions

Unlike traditional competitions, the Pro Cheer League operates as a televised event lasting approximately two hours.

Each team must perform in several events:

  • 🤸 Team routine

  • ⬆️ Highest Basketball Challenge

  • đź’Ş Partner Stunt Challenge (Coed and AG)

  • ⚡ Flash pyramid

  • 🎯 Tumbling bullseye

  • 🚀 Last pass (final big tumbling pass)

The rules also allow for much more advanced elements, such as triple twists or double back sneakers.

🌪️ A viral moment: the quadruple twist

During a match, an athlete performed a quadruple twist in tumbling.

The problem? The limit would seem to be three twists, which led to a disqualification.

The scene went viral on social media and sparked a debate: in a professional league, should athletes really be limited?

📺 A league still under development

The league is still very new and several elements are already evolving:

  • The challenges change from one match to another.

  • The formula is still being tested.

  • Distribution is limited to the United States.

But despite everything, the first broadcast reportedly attracted more than 1.4 million viewers.

🚀 The beginning of a new era?

The Pro Cheer League may only be the beginning.

Between the popularity of the sport, the elite athletes and the enthusiasm on social media, this league could mark the beginning of professional cheerleading.

And who knows… maybe one day we’ll see a Canadian cheerleading league too.
