Episode of September 2, 2024

The Kick's Cheer Podcast kicked off its second season with a bang by welcoming one of the biggest names in international cheerleading: Gabi Butler. Known for her participation in the most prestigious teams and shows, including Netflix's Cheer , she inspires an entire generation of young athletes.

👧 Gabi Butler: From Little Gymnast to World Star

Gabi started gymnastics at the age of 8 before being pushed into cheerleading by her mother. Although she resisted at first, she quickly found her passion for the sport. She humorously recounts that her beginnings were far from promising: poor technique, zero flexibility, and boundless energy. However, in just two seasons, she progressed rapidly thanks to a remarkable coach and unwavering determination.

🌟 The rise to fame

From the age of 12, Gabi was noticed for her exceptional flexibility and her stunt and tumbling skills. The public discovered her through viral videos, where she quickly became a "cheerlebrity," a cheer celebrity. She shares how she had to learn to deal with visibility, the pressure of competitions, and sometimes even criticism.

🧠 How to stay grounded despite success

Gabi emphasizes the importance of remaining humble. Despite the cameras, tours, and millions of followers, she says she's never forgotten where she comes from. She's extremely grateful to her parents, who were always there to support her, even when she left Florida at 14 to join the renowned SMOED team in California. Their involvement has been crucial to her success.

“You can have 100 million subscribers, but that doesn't mean you're worth more than anyone else.”

✨ Highlights

One of the most memorable moments of her career? Winning the World Championships for the first time with her team, after believing she would make them lose due to a small mistake. The tears, the relief, and the collective joy remain forever etched in her memory.

She also mentions that her time in Montreal, as part of the podcast and FestiCheer, is one of the memories she particularly cherishes, thanks to the warm welcome from the Quebec public.

💡 Advice for young athletes

Gabi emphasizes some simple but powerful tips:

  • Don't compare yourself to others.

  • Be yourself.

  • Work hard.

  • Keep God (or your values) first.

She reminds us that each athlete is unique, and that it is this authenticity that makes them strong.

🔮 And what's next?

Gabi doesn't have a specific plan, but she envisions one day opening her own gym or continuing to travel to share her passion. She recently organized her first summer camp and loves motivating the next generation.

This episode is a true gem for all cheerleading fans . Through her journey, Gabi shows that success comes from hard work, resilience, and a good environment. Whether you're an athlete or a parent, her words are a reminder that anything is possible...with passion.
