Episode of March 3, 2026
Cheerleading further regions is a different story. Fewer resources. Fewer competitions. Fewer athletes.
But often more heart. More loyalty. More resilience.
In episode 25 of season 3 of the Kick's Cheer Podcast, we welcome Marie-Ève Langlais, founder of the Paradox Club in Saint-Félicien (Lac-Saint-Jean), to talk unfiltered about the realities of cheer in the region.
And no, this isn't a "scaled-down" version of Montreal or Quebec cheerleading. It's a whole different ball game.
🚍 Cheerleading in further regions: a question of distance
When the nearest competition is a three-hour drive away, every event becomes an expedition.
Bus transportation, hotels, scheduling coordination… Travel expenses far exceed registration fees. And finding the right balance is crucial: raising prices is impossible without risking losing athletes.
The result: we do fewer competitions (around three per season), but we plan them intelligently. Less volume, more strategy.
🚌 The family effect
One of the biggest advantages of cheerleading in the region is retention.
Athletes stay for a long time. Coaches are often former athletes. There is a strong sense of belonging.
You don't change clubs over a minor detail. You build over several years.
This climate creates a true team culture, reinforced by bus trips, nights in hotels and competitions experienced as real collective adventures.
🏟️ Growing up with the right resources
Paradox currently has around 100 competitive athletes and up to 450 participants including recreational athletes.
But nothing was easy. Finding suitable premises (height, space, safety) was a major challenge. Moving into their own gym doubled their annual expenses.
A pivotal year.
It held up.
And today, the club is stable.
🌎 A Worlds team in the region
This season marks a first: a Paradox team will participate in the world championship.
For the younger generation, it's powerful. It proves that cheerleading in the regions can lead to great things.
It's not the address that limits talent.
🎯 Cheerleading in further regions is…
✔️ More logistical challenges
✔️ A smaller pool of athletes
✔️ Tight management
✔️ Exceptional loyalty
✔️ An engaged community
Cheerleading in the regions requires vision, patience, and courage. But when it's well-built, it's solid.
