Episode of March 10, 2025
In this episode of the Kick's Cheer Podcast, we tackled a hot topic for the 2024-2025 season: the lack of bids for Worlds Championships in Orlando, Florida. A theme that directly affects athletes, parents, coaches, and cheerleading clubs in Quebec (and elsewhere!).
🎟️ What exactly is a bid?
A bid is an official invitation to participate in a major competition, such as the World Championships. It is not something you can buy or ask for: you have to earn it by placing among the best in specific competitions, such as Celebration, which is often the last chance in Canada to get one.
📉 Fewer bids available this year
This year, there are fewer bids to distribute. Why? Because the international body (IASF) has reduced the total number of bids to better distribute them around the world and give more countries the chance to send teams.
As a result, between 7 and 10 teams are at risk of not getting a bid, even after giving their 100% all year. (Update: We now know that there were 8 teams that did not get bids in the 2024-2025 season)
🧠 What are the repercussions for gyms and athletes?
This is a situation that brings up important thoughts :
For smaller clubs, it's more difficult: you need at least 16 athletes to qualify for the World Championships. And putting together a group of this caliber requires a lot of work.
Some gyms may review their strategies: make fewer Worlds teams, but stronger ones.
We could also see a strong return of level 4, to better prepare athletes before aiming for levels 5, 6 or 7.
💬 And the emotion in all this?
What stands out in the podcast is the emotional impact. Not receiving a bid after a full season of work is a shock. For athletes and coaches alike. And sometimes, difficult decisions have to be made, with all the weight that entails.
But, as the hosts pointed out, even if the announcement is harsh, it won't come as a surprise. Teams know their rankings after Day 1 of the competition, and can often guess whether a bid is realistic or not.
💪 An opportunity to surpass yourself
This new context is not all negative. It can be a driving force to raise the bar, make better category choices, prepare better, and above all: never take anything for granted. Getting a bid will become a real reward, deserved and motivating.
